Donation Drive & New Super Moderator |
|

Due to the response from the first idea to bring in donations, a new module has been set up. Read all about it on the right. Since only one user donated for the original, and since he did not choose to ban anyone, there should be no problems. He is Kornman00, and he is also your new super moderator. He will be filling in a hole that we have for European timezones. More importantly, he has been a very influential and active member of this community and forum, and we think he is a great choice! He will be surprised to log on and see that his name is in green.

Halo PC Servers Crashed, and a Fix |
|
Jul 01, 2008 - 6:42 PM - by p0lar_bear

UPDATE!!!
Roger Wolfson, the head of Halo PC's support team from way back when, has managed to do the unthinkable and INCREDIBLY AWESOME by fixing up the problem in an official patch. This hotfix comes in the form of a zip archive containing fixed versions of halo.exe, haloce.exe, haloded.exe and haloceded.exe. You can find the technical crapola and download on the bungie.net forums. A local mirror will follow soon.
As an added bonus, this fix breaks bitterbanana's aimbot. Suck it down, botfags! (Sadly, a few good hacks like Yelo battery also broke. Oh well. )

Programmer Luigi Auriemma, known for finding the "haloboom" and "haloloop" crash exploits in older versions of Halo, has found another haloloop exploit in Halo's v1.07 Dedicated Server, allowing someone to crash servers by way of sending them into an infinite loop, a la previous versions.
Since Halo for the PC is no longer supported by Bungie, Gearbox, and Microsoft, it is highly unlikely that there will be an official patch for this. (EDIT: I just ate my words with a side of fries.) However, one of our community members has created a quick workaround of his own.
Please note that this workaround is offered as-is with no expression of warranty or anything like that (I'm bad at legal jargon). Use this patch at your own risk. Apparently, this fix doesn't work on the Halo dedicated server for Vista.

Just received word that 3D Buzz will be holding a level design contest for Unreal Tournament 3. Here are the details for all you Unreal mappers, or others looking for an excuse to get their feet wet with the Unreal Editor:
3D Buzz is pleased to announce the official launch of the Old School Level Design Contest for Unreal Tournament 3! The Unreal mod community is in need of some new recruits, and we want you to be one of them! This contest is unique in that ONLY those assets included with the retail version of Unreal Tournament 3 are permitted; absolutely NO custom content can be used in your level! This means that even if you’re completely new to the modding scene, you still have a chance to win some incredible prizes, including a chance to have your level reviewed by none other than Epic’s Design Director, Cliff Bleszinski!
Grand Prize Winner:
- $1000 cash prize
- PlayStation 3 game console (or $500 cash)
- Autographed copy of Unreal Tournament 3 signed by the developers
- Video review of your level by the staff of 3D Buzz
- Video review of your level by Epic Design Director Cliff Bleszinski
Along with other good runner-up prizes for 1st and 2nd.
Check out 3D Buzz's forum thread for more info!
